Abstract

Selective logging was carried out in a 28.4 ha forested catchment of Jengka Experimental Basin. Peninsular Malaysia. After six years of the calibration period the catchment was logged by commercial selective logging method. Significant increases in suspended sediment yield were observed. In the first year after logging, the suspended sediment yield increased from 100 to 277 kg ha-1 y-1 (177%) and further increased to 397 kg ha-1 y-1 (297%) in the following year. In the fourth year the yield recovered to the prologging level.
