Abstract

The investigation on the effect of site on the development of root system of Gmelina arborea in some areas of Imo State, revealed that the roots of G. arborea in Egbema developed luxuriant tap-root and adventitious roots compared with that of Okigwe and Umuagwo areas. G. arborea in Egbema undergo periodic fluctuation of the ground-water and high organic matter content of soil. The luxuriant root development could prevent the tree from being blown down by the high wind of the area.
