Abstract

Extraction of Azadirachta indica or "neem" seed with organic solvents afforded azadirachtin, a strong locust antifeedant and insect growth inhibitory compound. Base hydrolysis of a/.adirachtin yielded 16.7% 3-deacetyla/,adirachtin after esterification and reacetylation gave 56% azadirachtin.
