Abstract

The specific gravity of rotan manau, Calamus manan, was found to increase exponentially from the center of the stem towards the periphery. A mathematical model was developed to predict the specific gravity of a layer in the cross-section of the cane. The model was used to study the effect of peeling on the specific gravity of the rattan.
