Abstract

For many years landless farmers have illegally encroached upon the dry evergreen forest at Sakaerat for upland agriculture. A land reform project which allocated land to landless fanners was established in the area in 1981. This study reports a two-year project to promote agroforestry practices by the establishment of demonstration plots of multipurpose trees interplanted with cassava or groundnuts. Survival and growth after two years is reported.
